ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
TELL US YOUR STORY:
Desiree Niccoli
Class of 2010

Alschuler Communications, a public relations and strategic communications firm with locations in Pittsburgh and New York, announced that Desiree Niccoli has joined the firm as an Account Coordinator. Niccoli will work directly with company President Steven Alschuler on behalf of the firm’s clients.

Alschuler Communications (AC) helps clients enhance their reputations, strengthen their market positions, navigate crises and address critical issues.  AC works with clients nationally and in local markets around the country, in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors, with particular expertise in addressing complex, substantive matters. Founded by Steven Alschuler after the sale of his interest in LAK Public Relations, the New York-based firm he founded and led for 20 years, AC specializes in corporate communications, crisis communications, media relations, editorial services, public affairs and strategic communications for clients in a wide range of industries.

Prior to joining AC, Niccoli served as the Author Services Coordinator at Dorrance Publishing Co. where she wrote and distributed press releases, assembled media lists and developed internet ads for the hundreds of authors Dorrance publishes annually.

“Desiree has shown an ability to generate media coverage for clients in diverse fields, often working with individuals whose visibility had previously been limited,” Alschuler said.  “She understands the importance of producing tangible results for clients, which is central to our firm’s value proposition.”

Niccoli, a resident of Brookline, is a graduate of City Charter High School's Class of 2010 and Allegheny College's Class of 2014.

Advice for current students:

Don't be afraid to do what you love, but also realize that the more you love it, the harder you're going to have to work at it.

5 years from now, some of you will be exactly where you want to be and some of you won't. That's okay. Plans change. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Your teachers can be your best friends or your worst enemies. Only you can make that distinction. They will, however, always be there for you.

Always ask yourself the questions: "Is what I'm doing going to make me a better person?" if not "Is what I'm doing benefiting someone else for the better?" if not "Does what I'm doing make me happy (and it's not at the expense of someone else's happiness)?" if not... you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Tarilee Walker
Class of 2010

Tarilee Walker has worn lots of hats since she graduated from City High in 2010.  She is currently working at United Health Group and attending Pittsburgh Technological College. After high school she enlisted in the Army National Guard and attended Edinboro University.

Advice to current students:

Use high school as your stepping stone, whether you go right into Military, College or Workforce. If Military, you will have to take the ASVAB, therefore school is very important as well as getting in shape and staying in shape. If you choose to go to college, focus on keeping your GPA in great standing. Study, Study, Study.  If you are going into the workforce, focus on your GPA as well as building your resume: volunteer, work par-time, complete your internship.

Therezia Alchoufete
Class of 2008

Therezia Alchoufete  is currently working on her Masters of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh.  After graduating high school in 2008 she attended Pitt and graduated with a B.S. in Neuroscience with a Chemistry minor and a Certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine.  She is currently the president of the Graduate Student Dietetic Association at Pitt.

Advice for current students:

If you can "see" exactly where you will be in 5 years, then you're limiting yourself. Take every opportunity - especially the ones that are outside of your comfort zone. Thinking outside the box will land you exactly where you need to be.

Advice for current students:

Don't be afraid of asking questions or seeking help regardless of where you are. Some of the most important people in the world are only where they are because they are willing to admit that they don't know everything, and seek help.
