Neighborhood Learning Alliance (NLA), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the education and opportunities of lower income families through strategic partnerships with community organizations, with an active presence in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. We are seeking individuals to fill a variety of school day and afterschool positions.

Summary of Positions

Tutor – This position pays $12-14/hour for 10-15 hours per week. NLA is looking for tutors with strong academic skills to tutor middle and high school students in our school day and afterschool programs. Tutors should have some experience working with middle and high school students in urban schools. Tutors will work one and one and with small groups of students helping with homework, online academic credit recovery courses and general academic tutoring. Preference will be given to applicants with strong math and science backgrounds.

Warrior Coach – These positions pay $12.50-$15/hour for 15-20 hours per week. NLA is seeking two or three really strong individuals to work with its Reading and Tech Warrior programs. The applicant should have an understanding of and passion for reading and/or STEM and some youth management experience. The Warrior coaches will manage and support a group of our high school workers (Warriors) as they train and provide afterschool reading and STEM programming to elementary children in our afterschool network. The program operates during afterschool time Monday-Thursday and from 10AM-2PM on Saturday.

Afterschool Program Assistant – These positions pay between $11-15/hour. Staff will be assigned to work at one of the NLA supported elementary, middle or high school afterschool programs. This position will support the site coordinator with the planning and implementation of the NLA afterschool program model at their designated site. Applicants should have experience with elementary, middle or high school populations and with managing afterschool programs and staff. This staff person would need to be available generally during afterschool times on Monday through Friday.
